Agro-food tourism can boost local economic development and promote traditional sustainable agriculture practices by providing an important market for a host of safe and environment-friendly agro-food products especially since food has always been central to the travel experience.

Promoting Food Safety and Increased Value-Chain Linkages: “TOWARDS DEVELOPING SAFE, SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE AGRO-BASED VALUE CHAINS IN THE GMS”

Objectives

  • To identify agro-food products and services with high potential and to promote linkages with the tourism sector (including hotels, restaurants, cafes, airlines, etc.) in the GMS.
  • To promote food safety, improve agriculture value chain linkages, and expand opportunities for smallholder access to export, hospitality and meetings, incentives conventions and events (MICE) industry markets.
  • To develop partnerships between the agriculture, tourism, environment sectors, while catalysing the development of agro-eco-tourism services and specialty food products and services that can be offered at premium prices.
